Basic Seminar in Holzer's Permaculture with Sepp Holzer September 03– September 05, 2010
September 04:An Open Day with Sepp Holzer including a guided tour through the Tamera Water Landscape
Warmly welcome to this seminar! It will provide you with an insight into the basic way of thinking and working of Sepp Holzer and his permaculture:
- "Thinking naturally" and "Learning to read the book of nature" - observing natural processes, understanding their connection and their context, and learning to steer in a way that natural cycles and self-sustaining systems can (re-)develop.
- the correct water management for each piece of land as the basis of landscape healing and biotope development: building water retention spaces,
- building food and plant biotopes of abundance: enabling the symbioses of interaction, installing mixed cultures and raised beds, building good soil with the help of support plants.
The seminar is going to take place in a peak time of ecological manifestation: The main seeding for winter vegetable cultures as well as the harvest and preparation of our own seeds will be at their peak. Presumably rather big construction works for the new drinking water supply of Tamera are going to happen at that time: Sepp Holzer's idea to install a ring tube for alive drinking water (Link Text!) including an irrigation water storage pond are planned to be put into practise during this time.
These themes will be part of the seminar.
Subsequent to the seminar the Ecology Team from Tamera invite you for traineeships/a time of practical cooperation in our permaculture or else at the ongoing water pipe construction site (if you are interested please come back to us).
Languages: German, English, Portuguese
Arrival and departure: On the day before / after the seminar.
Course fee: € 380 incl. food&lodging for four nights

The Rebel Farmer Returns!
World renown rebel farmer, Sepp Holzer, returns to Western Washington for two intensive seminars in February.
Last year the Washington gardening world was turned upside down when Sepp Holzer brought his vision of Permaculture from the Alps to the Cascades. Sepp Holzer Permaculture is taking root worldwide. It involves "... farming in cycles, on the model of self-sufficient natural ecosystems." Holzer promotes no weeding, no tilling, no pesticides and the greatest partner in the world, Mother Nature.
The public is invited to view an introductory film "The Agro-Rebel, Permaculture in Salzburg" on January 20, 2010, 6:30 pm, at Gordon's Grange in Yelm. Holzer films and texts will be available along with the chance to register for the seminars.
His ideas are unorthodox and electrifying. He very often repeats, "Man cannot perfect that which is already perfect, we must simply learn to manage nature wisely." One of his students describes him, "For that reason, when a problem arises with the plants, animals, or soil, he enters into the state of this entity, imagines being it, and listens to his feelings; whether he is comfortable in this spot, what is bothering him, what is lacking, what he would like. And the answer comes, and what is very important-it is always right. And if the diagnosis is made correctly, then the treatment will be effective."
Holzer travels the world transforming blighted lands into gardens. This year his advanced seminar in Yelm will include: Underground water reservoir - one will be built on the property for practical application; Use and cultivation of Medicinal & Culinary Herbs and practical experience with the 'Bone' ointment, used to repel deer; Meat storage - learn how to keep meat for more than 20 years the old fashioned way. Practical will be included. Much more!
Please join us for the press screening and pass the word along for the general public about the public screening on January 20. Thank you!

Practical Seminars with Sepp Holzer about Holzer's Permaculture at the Peace Research Centre Tamera, Portugal
Next seminar: June 3rd - 5th, 2010
Tamera is an international education site of Sepp Holzer in Southern Europe since autumn 2008. All Seminars are offered in German language with translation into English and with translation into Russian, Portuguese or Spanish according to demand and availability.
In the practical seminars with Sepp Holzer and the Ecology Team, participants have the opportunity to study the practical development of a large-scale water landscape and to get hands-on practice. Each seminar is a living process which conveys the entire spectrum of Holzer`s Permaculture. The special focus of each seminar depends on the time of the year in which it takes place and on the status of the development of the water landscape at the time.
For further information about the seminars and the cooperation between Sepp Holzer and Tamera please refer to the Tamera-Homepage www.tamera.org - Ecology.
Basic content:
- Water management of the land and the construction of water retention spaces for the revitalization and the healing of a landscape.
- The development of biotopes of abundance where all things complement each other; especially for the self-supply of humans with vegetables and fruits.
- Mixed cultures and high beds; soil regeneration by means of support plants and plant communities; the symbiosis of plant and animal interaction. “Together is better than alone!"
- “Thinking naturally" and “learning to read the book of nature." Observation of the processes in nature; recognition of interrelationships and direction to produce natural cycles so that self-sustained systems are able to (again) develop by themselves.
The basic content of this seminar: Fruit-Growing in Holzer`s Permaculture
Languages: German, English, Portuguese
Cost of each Seminar: EUR 480 per seminar, including accommodation in four-bed visitors’ huts with your own sleeping bag, and vegan food. A room may be available in the Guest House for an additional charge of EUR 20,- per night.

One Year Training Cycle in Tamera 2010/11 with Sepp Holzer
| For each landscape, in every climatic zone, says Sepp Holzer, whether in a fertile river valley or in a moderate climate, whether in the Tundra or in the desert, there is always the possibility to cooperate with nature, to guide her and to cultivate something that suits the land and its inhabitants. In this context Holzer’s Permaculture is not a method which offers the same procedure for every situation. On the contrary, its core lies in the observation of nature, in putting ourselves in the place of other living beings and through this understanding from within, realizing which are the healing measures that make sense in the given situation. Sepp Holzer: “The book of nature always tells the truth; we just have to learn to read it."

Workshop: The Secrets of Eden with Sepp Holzer (from February 19th to March 14th, 2009)
From February 19th - March 14th, 2009, we will host The Secrets of Eden --
a series of talks and two day workshops with Sepp Holzer, the Austrian Rebel Farmer, in Western Washington State and in Oregon.
For more than 40 years now, Sepp Holzer, the agricultural rebel has been transforming his family farm in the Lungau district in the Austrian Alps into an eco-paradise of fishing ponds, ten thousands of fruit trees, shrubs, vines and highly productive vegetables and herbs. Here, at an altitude of 1500 meters (~5000 feet) in the "Siberia of Austria", he has created a self-sustaining landscape in which he produces many varieties of the best quality fish, fruits, nuts, vegetables, mushrooms, pork, poultry and even citrus without irrigation, fertilizers, pesticides or weeding.
By observing nature and experimenting with his own garden from childhood on, he developed his own form of Permaculture, which is already the subject of scientific research. He cleverly uses ecological relationships and cycles, letting nature do the work for him with minimal labor input while providing optimum living conditions for his plants and animals. In this way he creates an eco-paradise which also achieves maximized economic success from his farming activities.
He has become famous far beyond the German-speaking world. His farm, the "Krameterhof" has become a symbol for a new kind of farming with hundreds of busses of visitors touring it every year. Sepp also acts as a consultant to a large number of projects all over Europe and the world, including Scotland, Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, and Thailand, creating new croplands from depleted soils in harsh and difficult conditions. The principles of Sepp Holzer's Permaculture are simple and can be applied in any climate, by anyone, on any scale. These principles can empower anyone to develop a more sustainable life style and create their own highly productive eco-paradise, from the balcony garden to the family farm.
From February 19th to March 14th, 2009, Sepp Holzer and his son Joseph Andreas Holzer, will be visiting the United States, conducting The Secrets of Eden series of interviews, talks, and two day workshops in the Pudget Sound region of Washington State and the Portland area in Oregon. In each hands-on workshop a Holzer Permaculture project will be explained and created, such as ponds, terraces, fertile mounds (Huegelbeds), earth-bermed chicken coops and horse shelters, herb and vegetable spirals and craters, companion planting and plant communities. In January and February, 2009, videos screenings throughout the Pudget Sound region will give an introduction to Sepp Holzer and his dynamic approach to Permaculture. (www.perma-dise.com)
